I was just surfing the net for my project on ADOLESCENTS AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE and came across in various pages about headings like–”drug and alcohol abuse”.why is it that the term alcohol has been individually written rather than being considered as a type of drug only??is there a major difference between the two?

No. Alcohol is a drug, it is just more acceptable to use than crack or heroine. Caffeine is a drug too.
